Melissa Mataic takes time out of her hectic schedule to speak with The Redcliffe Peninsula.
I have had the pleasure of knowing Melissa Mataic of Red Music Centre, from the very early days of the family business. It was clear that the family business would flourish due to her talent and her unwavering passion to offer the Redcliffe peninsula far more than just a music school.
The Red Music Centre is a safe, supportive, welcoming and creative place where students of all ages and skills can learn. They believe that learning is continual, and something that everyone should be involved in regardless of age!
More than just a music school
Red Music Centre is a dynamic, energetic and forward thinking provider of performing arts tuition, education and performance in our region. Its team is made up of enthusiastic, experienced, qualified and passionate teachers with two highly motivated, creative and supportive directors. Red Music is a family run and owned business, with its owners living here on the Redcliffe peninsula. Red Music IS NOT a national franchise or multinational company. They are a local small business who prides itself on “thinking big” but maintaining our family friendly environment.
Take 5 with Melissa Mataic
Redcliffe born or Redcliffe-lured?
I am Redcliffe lured – We’ve been here for 12 years now, lured from the crazy hustle and bustle in Sydney.
What does your business/job involve?
I’m a high school Music Teacher and Voice teacher “by trade” – but what I love most is inspiring people to discover and achieve new levels of confidence through the performing arts. Five years ago my husband and I decided to bring our dream to life, and we opened the Red Music Centre – supported by the success of my home studio. Running a performing arts school has allowed me to discover new leadership skills, especially going from a home business of 1 teacher to a teaching team of 24! Its also allowed me to really share my passion for performance and my true belief that with the right support, nurturing and positivity you CAN achieve anything you dream!
Suburb you live in and why you love it?
Scarborough – The palm tree laden streets is what lured me in! I just love being so close to the water – it’s so calming and soothing. It’s such a beautiful place to raise a family – everyone is so nice – coming from an inner city urban jungle where people don’t really speak to their neighbours, Scarborough was just the ideal place. We still love it, and won’t ever leave!
How do you unwind?
I don’t unwind very often – but when I do – it’s usually with a coffee in my hand and a good book.
