Flood watch remains for Moreton Bay

Flood watch and marine wind warnings remain in place for areas including Moreton Bay, with moderate to locally heavy rain possible over the Flood Watch Area for the remainder of Monday until Wednesday, easing on Thursday.

The Bureau of Meteorology cannot be certain of the timing and location of forecast rain, but the coast and adjacent ranges are likely to receive the heaviest falls.

At this stage, one road is closed in the City of Moreton Bay after heavy rain fell across the state in the past 24 hours.

The Queensland Traffic website shows Mott St at Strathpine is closed to all traffic in both directions due to flash flooding after heavy rainfall, but all other roads remain open.

Rain tally

Across the city, Ocean View had the highest falls in the 24 hours to 9am with 42mm, Laceys Creek recorded 34mm, Mount Glorious 32mm, Raynbird Creek 31mm, Mount Mee 29mm, Highvale 28mm, Upper Caboolture and Bellmere 26mm and Dayboro 23mm.

The North Pine River at Lees Crossing was steady at 30cm below the road at 6.23am today, while Sideling Creek at Lake Kurwongbah was 0.07m below the spillway at 8.53am and water at North Pine Rd at Youngs Crossing was steady at 1.42m below the causeway at 6.59am.

The Bureau of Meteorology says localised river level rises and flash flooding are likely within the areas of heaviest rainfall, with isolated minor to moderate riverine flooding possible.

The bureau says the Pine and Caboolture rivers are among the catchments likely to be affected.

Sandbags available

Moreton Bay residents who need sandbags can head to one of Council’s sandbag stations, all of which are open.

Sandbag stations are at Arana Hills, Beachmere, Bongaree, Caboolture, Dayboro, Deception Bay, Elimbah, Margate, Narangba, Petrie, Toorbul and Woodford.

Council says sandbags can reduce the impact of flooding if they’re placed correctly in appropriate locations around the property.

Residents should bring their own shovel, as they may be required to fill their own bags, but the State Emergency Service (SES) may be able to help to residents unable to get their own sandbags due to illness, age or other incapacity.
