With its enviable setting of a Rooftop Terrace overlooking Moreton Bay at Margate Beach, last night, 29 May 2018, The Sebel Brisbane Margate Beach held a glamorous soiree to celebrate the official opening of the hotel and I was lucky enough to be invited to the event.
Representing a $15 million investment in the Redcliffe Peninsula, a sunset cocktail party for 80 guests was held to commemorate this latest hotel addition to the AccorHotels stable of properties with valued clients, dignatories and business partners enjoying a night of Champagne and Gourmet Canapes.
The Sebel’s Executive Chef, Steve Bestwick and his team designed a gourmet canape menu for the occasion featuring some local culinary highlights while a live oyster shucking buffet proved popular with guests.
The ceremonious cutting of the ribbon was conducted by Moreton Bay Regional Council Mayor Allan Sutherland in a wonderful close to the official formalities of the elaborate celebration.
Guests also enjoyed hearing from modern-day poet Rupert McCall with his tribute to the Redcliffe Peninsula entitled The Boy on the Bridge Returns which pays tribute to the Redcliffe kid who grew up fishing on the old Hornibrook Bridge – wondering what lay on the other side. There was this curious perception that, to taste the excitement and take on the challenge of the wider world, you had to leave the Peninsula, cross that bridge and get amongst it.
The evening was a celebration of the glorious history and culture of the location, whilst the hotel’s interior designers paid tribute to local history by utilising a mix of bold, graphic and nostalgic art works to create an authentic yet innovatively contemporary hospitality experience in the 58 guest rooms.
