Sesame Lane centres across the City of Moreton Bay are collecting items for the Chic for Charity preloved clothing sale on June 8 which will raise money for child protection charity Bravehearts.

Families and staff have already generously donated a large amount of clothing, but more is needed to ensure the sale is a success.

Sesame Lane Cotton Tree Drive Narangba Service Manager Kerrie Ward says the team is heartened by the support already shown by families and the broader community.

“We’re collecting anything from babies’ clothing right up to adult clothing – men’s and women’s – as well as shoes, bags and sportswear,” Kerrie says.

Clothing racks are also needed to display items.

“We’re not taking furniture or books, or toys. It is a clothes sale,” she says.

The sale will include some new clothing, with tags still attached, thanks to businesses and individuals keen to support Bravehearts.

Anyone wanting to donate clothing can do so at any Sesame Lane centre, Embrace Life at North Lakes, and Fitstop Redcliffe and North Lakes. Pick-up can be arranged for large donations of items.

About the clothing sale

The Chic for Charity preloved clothing sale will be held from 9am-1pm at 38 Torres Cres, North Lakes, adjacent to Sesame Lane North Lakes Flinders Pde.

There will be a sausage sizzle to raise money for Bravehearts, as well as ice cream and a coffee van at the event.

A team of volunteers from Sesame Lane and Bravehearts will sort donations so shoppers can easily find what they are looking for, including the correct size.

There will be a simple pricing structure, which will be determined once they have a clear idea of the variety and volume of items donated.

“We want to make it affordable for the community. People are doing it tough at the moment so if they can buy some clothes at some really great prices, it’s helping the community and also helping the charity,” Kerrie says.

“We’re going to make sure the prices are kept at really reasonable levels.”

Items not sold will be donated to Lifeline and Save the Children.

Kerrie says supporting Bravehearts’ important child protection work is a natural fit for Sesame Lane.

“It’s something we haven’t just organised ourselves. The whole community is backing us and helping us support Bravehearts as well,”

She says it is important to shine a light on the work Bravehearts does, and the impact abuse has on children.

The event is also a chance to connect victims with the services they need to heal.

Businesses are invited to take part in and support the Chic for Charity preloved clothing sale. Contact Tanya Ricketts via email at tricketts@sesamelane.com.au
