Moreton Police District has been boosted by the arrival of 10 First Year Constables (FYCs) who will be based at six stations.

The new recruits are among 67 graduates from Oxley Police Academy who have started a year-long assessment program as FYCs.

Moreton District’s FYCs have diverse backgrounds including as a lifeguard, defence, real estate, emergency medical dispatcher, AV technician, diesel technician, working for the Courts and a plumber.

“Moreton is a very busy district that provides many opportunities to experience diverse and dynamic jobs,” Acting Chief Superintendent Anne Vogler said.

“Keeping our community safe in their homes, in public places, on the road and during disasters, is our job and our priority.”

"You will be surprised"

The FYCs, who were also welcomed by Acting Superintendent John Van Egmond, will be at Petrie, Deception Bay, Redcliffe, Bribie Island, Caboolture and North Lakes.

Constable Matthew Gillies was a plumber for 20 years before joining Queensland Police and said: “There are many avenues and opportunities once you are in.”

The variety of work is important to Constable Hunter Dare who said: “This job is going to be rewarding and challenging and every shift you work is going to be different.”

Constable Jarrod Fulton worked for Queensland Ambulance Service as an emergency medical dispatcher before switching emergency service.

“You will be surprised what you are capable of and when you get through, it’s the best feeling,” said Constable Fulton. “If you’re thinking about applying just do it.”
