Stockland Newport has won the Excellence in Masterplanned Communities at the 2023 Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA) Queensland Awards.

David Laner, Stockland General Manager Queensland Development, was proud the Newport team had been recognised at this month’s awards.

“Connecting people to the place they call home is an important aspect when designing a master-planned community,” he said.

“This is done through deep customer and market insights, ensuring the community has infrastructure and amenities residents expect.

“In designing Newport, we focussed on creating a place where the city meets the sea.

“With sweeping bay views, the waterside community is perfectly positioned so residents have easy access to schools, shops and transport links, making it a convenient and relaxing lifestyle for families and downsizers alike.”

Mr Laner said an extraordinary engineering effort brought to life the 22-hectare, non-tidal, man-made lake.

“All lots needed to be raised above the projected 2100 Q100 levels for climate change resilience,” Mr Laner said.

“We achieved this sustainably by re-using the soil excavated during creation of the lake.

“A low-maintenance lock and weir system equalises water levels in the lake to keep it non-tidal, giving waterfront residents high-mast boat access to Moreton Bay.”

The community has more than 500 town homes and apartments, 1570 land lots, a 125-apartment retirement village - 75 per cent delivered and 90 per cent sold.

The annual UDIA Queensland Awards for Excellence honour the highest achievers across the development industry with winners eligible for the national awards.
