Theatre 102 becomes a community arts hub

Theatre 102 at Redcliffe is looking for tenants as it seeks to become a community arts hub.

As the last remaining independent theatre building on the Redcliffe Peninsula, Redcliffe Musical Theatre Director Madeleine Johns says expansion is important.

“We have heard through the newly formed Redcliffe and District Arts and Crafts Advisory Board that performance spaces are becoming very hard to find or are too expensive. So, we wanted to help the situation for the performing arts locally,” Madeleine says.

“Even though we are already very busy and have shows performing the majority of weekends, we know that there are still gaps through which we can accommodate local choirs, small independent companies, solo performers, themed trivia and bingo hosts and karaoke.”

There are three tenants using the hub, but the committee is looking for another three for one-off or short-term engagements.

“We suggest getting in touch with us very soon if that is something you are considering as some months this year are already completely booked out,” Madeleine explains.

“The maximum capacity will be determined by the calendar and fitting new bookings in around our existing bookings.”

There will be fees involved to book a space at Theatre 102.

“As with any theatre, there are costs involved in hiring out the space. Depending on how long you wish to hire and what other additional services or equipment you require, the fees will vary,” Madeleine says.

“We will try to keep things affordable for NFP and independent artists and companies. Just call us to chat and we'll see what we can do to help.

“We hope that the hub will be open every day moving forward - in particular, we are looking for groups who may wish to use the theatre space during the day for classes, meetings or concerts.

“Our vision is to open every day and to offer opportunities to use the space to as many companies in the performing arts as possible.”
