Work starts on historic new city

The first sod was turned today at Waraba, formerly known as Caboolture West, a new city which will eventually be the size of Mackay.

Work is now officially under way at Lilywood Landings – the largest residential community in Waraba’s first suburb of Lilywood.

Developed by Lennium, Lilywood Landings is the “entry project” for Moreton Bay's new city and will have a range of “affordable homes”.

The sod-turning was attended by Minister for Housing, Local Government, and Planning and Minister for Public Works, Meaghan Scanlon; Deputy Leader of the Opposition and Shadow Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning, Jarrod Bleiije and Mayor of the City of Moreton Bay, Peter Flannery.

Lennium Group Development Manager Ian Worthington said Waraba was a 40-year project that would eventually provide around 30,000 homes for about 70,000 people.

“Spanning around 70 hectares, Lilywood Landings will provide a total of 705 lots blended with parklands, walking trails and conservation areas along the Caboolture River,” Mr Worthington said.

“We are proud to announce land prices will start at under $300,000 when we officially launch the first stages in a few weeks’ time.

“This will offer buyers a very affordable entry into the new home market with the land suitable for the majority of three-to-four bedroom family homes.”

Lennium Group is the first of several developers with landholdings in Waraba’s first precinct to break ground on its community.

Lilywood Landings is the group’s largest project to date and have Waraba’s first display village in partnership with Master Builders Queensland.

Residents will have access to 1.74kms of Caboolture River frontage, more than 23 hectares for parks and green open spaces and a convenience store and childcare centre.

Lennium Director Nicholas Lennon said it was only fitting that the community take the name of Waraba’s first suburb of Lilywood.

“Our company has been planning Lilywood Landings for almost 20 years,” Lennium Director Nicholas Lennon said.

“I’m proud to say we have been a driving force in the Caboolture West vision, and after all this hard work are here with our civil contractors starting on a brand new city.”
